Year 4

Welcome to the Year 4 page.
We are so excited to start our learning journey together this year! Here you will find lots of information about our classes, the things we have been doing and ideas to help you with your learning. You will find links to our Curriculum Overview and our Crucial Knowledge. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Children in Year 4 enjoy learning an array of different subjects where the aim is always to learn and embed our crucial knowledge and apply this knowledge in different ways across the curriculum. The children use their heads, hearts and hands to embed and apply this crucial knowledge and support their learning. Children have the opportunity to work in many different ways such as: working independently, working in pairs or teams; experiencing trips; using technology and using the outdoors environment. By the end of LKS2, we hope the children will have a deep love of learning, have gained independence and developed their sense of self in a fun, nurturing environment.
Physical Education: Throughout the year, Year 4s go swimming at Chesterton Community Sports College. Information regarding this will be communicated each half term via the office. Year 4 have P.E on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the children need to come to school in their PE kits on these days. It can be worn all day (no need for changing).
PE kit:
· A plain white top (polo or t-shirt) or a Bursley top
· A plain navy/ black zip or pullover jumper or a Bursley hoody
· Plain navy/black joggers, leggings or shorts
· A pair of plain trainers or pumps (black, white, grey or navy)
These items are available in local supermarkets however we also have second-hand P.E. kit available at the school office, please pop in if you need anything.
To ensure pupil safety and comfort during physical activities, please ensure that on PE days:
· Children with long hair have their hair tied up.
· Earrings are removed at home. Children who come to school with earrings in will take part in the P.E lesson but this may be in a less active role.
Reading: Reading books and diaries need to be in school every day, as the children can be asked to read with an adult at any time during the week. Children are asked to read 3 x per week and parents are encouraged to listen to them and sign their diaries. Reading diaries will be checked once a week.
Homework: Each week, children are expected to carry out the following tasks:
- Read 3 x per week and have this signed in their diaries.
- Practise their times tables in a variety of ways so they are ready for the Multiplication check in June.
- Learn the spelling pattern they are doing in class and practise their spellings.
Homework is due in on Wednesdays and will be returned on Thursdays.
